    Description

Starting in 1798 and NOT to be confused with the whiskey made at George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate, this MOUNT VERNON  brand was started by Edwin A. Clabaugh and George U. Graff of Baltimore. They sold the brand to Henry S. Hannis of Philadelphia in 1873.
In 1889 the brand was purchased by Cook & Bernheimer (see the lettering on base), a wholesaler from New York who obtained an exclusive contract to bottle and distribute Mt Vernon whiskey, distilled by the Hannis Distilling Co. of Baltimore and Philadelphia. The whiskey was sold in distinctively square brown bottles.
This classic Mount Vernon whiskey bottle, likely from the 1890-1910 period, with a partial label, and a portion of the original top, is embossed with MOUNT VERNON PURE RYE WHISKEYON ONE SIDE and THE COOK & BERNHEIMER COMPANY FULL QUART embossed above REFILLING OF THIS BOTTLE PROHIBITED and ONE QUART at the bottom of another side. The base is embossed ONLY BOTTLING in an arch around C & B Co.
It is 9.25 inches tall, 4 inches wide,
free of cracks or chips, in excellent condition.
Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
