    FACs: EYES OF THE ATTACK:
It seems like a cruel joke – sending pilots out over enemy territory in outdated planes, often without any weapons at all, and requiring them to fly "low and slow." Yet this is exactly what the airmen who served as Forward Air Controllers ("FACs") in Vietnam were ordered to do. Bridging the technological gap between WWII and the Gulf War, Vietnam was rife with combat anachronisms, and the FACs was one of the most astonishing. For all the firepower American bombs could bring to bear, finding the targets in the dense jungles often required spotters, and this was the thankless and dangerous job of the FACs – to direct the bombers to their targets. SUICIDE MISSIONS uses combat footage and gripping interviews with survivors, including Medal of Honor recipient Thomas Norris – the man who saved BAT-21, to tell the astonishing story of these brave aviators. Strap into the cockpit for one of the most harrowing missions in the history of aerial warfare. (Approx. 45min.)
    WINGS OVER VIETNAM: THE FACs:
The ability of fighter bomber crews to differentiate between friend and foe, in order to independently provide close-in air support, proved to be extremely difficult in the vast jungles and rice patties of Vietnam. Firefights often broke out at close range between small American patrols that became intermingled with the elusive Viet Cong beneath dense, triple-canopy jungle. To combat this, an elite group of pilots known as Forward Air Controllers, or FACs as they were known, patrolled the countryside in lightweight, unarmed aircraft. These pilots risked their lives daily to pinpoint enemy positions and mark them with target-marking rockets. Once that was completed, they were often called-upon to loiter overhead and direct follow-up air strikes. To help cut through the fog of war, hundreds of FACs scoured the countryside assisting both men on the ground and fighter bomber crews alike. Few air combat missions could be as dangerous, demanding and potentially heart-breaking as the missions of Forward Air Controllers in Vietnam.  It was the FACs' mission was to quickly make sense of the situation from above, and to call in air strikes in support of the men below - a job he had to do with nothing more than a few radios, a few target-marking rockets, and a lot of guts. It took a lot of intestinal fortitude to climb into a slow-moving, non-armored plane and fly low altitude missions over enemy territory, and these were the men that did it - knowing full well if they were ever shot down and captured they would not be taken captive! (Approx. 45min.)
